Bridging Outdoor Cooking and the Cloud with IoT

SmokeBloq is a smart thermometer built for outdoor cooking enthusiasts. It connects to home Wi-Fi networks and transmits real-time temperature data to the cloud, letting cooks monitor their grills and smokers from anywhere.
The Challenge
Jack Calhoun, founder of NGT Enterprises, saw a gap in the outdoor cooking market. Existing thermometers couldn't handle weather extremes or line-of-sight limitations, leaving serious outdoor cooks without a reliable way to monitor their temperatures remotely. He set out to build something better with SmokeBloq, a thermometer designed to work the way outdoor cooking actually works.
What We Did
Band of Coders built the SmokeBloq iOS app from the ground up. The app connects directly to the SmokeBloq IoT hardware device, pulling in real-time temperature readings and letting users monitor and record data while cooking outdoors on ceramic grills like the Big Green Egg. Under the hood, the app runs on a serverless AWS backend, keeping infrastructure lean while handling the real-time demands of IoT data collection. The result was a seamless bridge between the physical thermometer and the cook's phone.
