The speed of AI Maturity
For some organizations, AI, Generative AI, or Agents are no longer vague technologies; they’re something that has been implemented and iterated on.
This is a huge shift from a lack of understanding and risk mitigation to real-world implementation.
And that’s where things get complicated.
Because while the technology continues to move fast, most organizations are stumbling over themselves and finding new risks and rewards in their implementation. AWS recently reported that its products are affecting quality due to generative code and has changed policies to include more human interaction.
The Struggle Between AI Automation and Human Control
One of the struggles with Generative AI implementation is between what can be generated and how much human oversight is needed. With the buzz of technologies, people are more open to handing the full process over to AI. This has created a ton of problems.
What performs well in controlled demos and pilots doesn’t always translate into scale across the organization, more users, and evolving business requirements. Administrators are struggling to determine when to use generation or analysis and when to rely on human oversight.
That struggle, between AI Automation and human review, is where most AI initiatives slow down.
Why AI Makes Existing Systems More Complex
Most organizations introduce generative AI without the full context of its use and how it accesses their IT ecosystem. This can lead to significant risks, including overly permissive access or unintended data leakage.
With almost every SaaS platform introducing AI features and AI platforms like Claude being so easy to sign up for, or Open Claw, which can just get permission at the OS level, it may feel nearly impossible to control the AI sprawl happening in your organization.
Agents want to complete a task, but at what length would they go to ensure it’s done?
In practice, this leads to:
- outputs that don’t align with business logic
- workflows breaking across systems
- teams spending more time validating results than using them
Most AI projects don’t fail because of the AI platform. They fail because the system and the people around it aren't ready.
The Tradeoff Between AI Speed and Security
Security and AI have been an ever-evolving target. As threat actors use AI to enhance their attack strategies and scale their operations, security teams are scrambling to develop tighter defenses to thwart these sophisticated approaches.
Internally, the fast adoption of AI has undermined common security practices such as least privilege and access control for agents, leading to fairly drastic results.
Organizations like the Cloud Security Alliance are creating more security controls, like the AI Controls Matrix, which outlines critical controls to ensure proper security practices for AI. Or Google’s SAIF initiative is laying the foundations for strong security methodologies for AI administrators and practitioners.
It’s important to use these methodologies and resources to ensure you take the time to establish proper foundational security practices for running AI safely and securely.
We also encourage the use of a SaaS/AI security tool to monitor AI usage and any potential shadow AI lurking in your organization.
AI in Software Development: Faster, but Not Simpler
AI in Software Development has seen the most maturity. As we step away from just vibe coding entire platforms, we are practicing more generative practices across the entire development lifecycle.
From gathering specs, creating documentation, designing, and UX, to engineering, infrastructure, testing, and deployment, AI is impacting every level of the SDLC. Last year, we saw a gold rush to build 100% automated frameworks, but, as mentioned above, we are starting to see a normalization of human-in-the-middle reviews, with AI agents collaborating to accelerate, stabilize, and secure production.
It’s more important than ever to have experts drive agentic workflows to ensure a usable, resilient, efficient, and secure product that empowers your end users at every step.
The Shift Toward Structured AI Workflows
In the enterprise, overall AI platforms like Claude, Co-Pilot, and Gemini have all offered to create AI-powered workflows to empower more automation and intelligence into the organization's operations.
As these tools are newer to many organizations, we are seeing a boom in experimentation and pilot programs implementing isolated Agentic workflows. This, coupled with other AI Agents in Saas platforms, will see a boom in integrations across organizations, large and small.
